It is hugely disappointing that at a time when everyone needs to be supporting one another that Clinical homecare have made the decision to cut overtime pay and take away sick pay for the first three days that they are off sick. This will put additional financial burdens on those who are earning the least, leaving some of them around £2 000 worse off, when their US based CEO continues to take home a six figure salary.
What is particularly disappointing is their unwillingness to engage with staffing unions on this matter. Clearly during a pandemic staff should not be put off taking sick days. Imagine if a member of staff has a slight cough but doesn’t want to lose pay, only for that to develop into symptoms of covid-19. That member of staff may have already infected their co-workers.
No one is going to claim that this has been an easy time for business but by working with staffing unions in a proactive way clinical homecare could look at how they can avoid adding additional pressures to their staff and I would urge them to do so.
