For the first time ever at Linkfest, Harlow Labour Party hosted a Marquee, which featured some fantastic talent, with many great performances from local Party members. Over the two days of the event, 25th and 26th August, members and visitors were treated to musical performances from Anita Schutzchik, Cara Sheridan, Charlotte Howell and Stephen Tew, Harlow Labour’s ‘Voices of Harlow’ Choir, the Valaitis Brothers, Guilty Pleasures, and even an impromptu ‘karaoke style’ rendition of ‘Islands in the Sun’, from ex Council Leader Emma Toal, and Harlow Young Labour’s Shannon Jezzard! Not everyone visiting would pick the same ‘favourite act’, there were many superb performances; every performer worthy of a place on ‘ The Voice’ at very least! But the star of the show was local legend and Harlow CLP Member Murray Torkildsen, with a totally entertaining set, which had a packed tent demanding more. Add stand-up comedy from C.J Hooper and Sara Louise Aston Pete White, A.J Roberts, Paul Scahill, plus and the superb Jenan Younnis, and the overall standard of entertainment was off the scale. Anyone who was around for the two days enjoyed an absolute treat of a weekend.
The marquee was adorned with material about the Labour Party, Trade Unions, and the Labour years of Harlow Council. Overall, the attendance of the Labour Party at Linkfest was a great success. The show organisers are learning on the job, (and a quite dismal rainy Sunday certainly didn’t help the overall attendance) but the Labour Tent was never empty, and with the support of a number of councillors, a ‘Prosecco Bar’ and a ‘Pick a Straw’ tombola, never boring! Harlow Labour Party members Mark & Nancy Watson won the star prize in the tombola, a “Number 10 Downing Street’ teapot valued at £120.
We’re looking forward to working with the Linkfest organisers, to make an even bigger splash in 2019.
